Autumn 2 Week 1

This week the Phonics Fairy has arrived at Nursery and we have started our 'Story Time Phonics' journey learning a letter of the week. This week we have been looking at the story 'My Pet Snake' by Michelle Lorbey to help us learn our sound of the week 's' pronounced like the sound a snake makes 'ssssssss'. We have been thinking about objects that begin with sound 's', practising forming the letter with our letter chatter 'take Jake the snake around the lake' as part of our Squiggle while you wiggle mark making and learning our Jake the snake action with our arms. We have sent some flash cards home with their homework for you to practise the 's' sound with them at home.

In Maths we have been learning about the number 6 and our shape of the week a 'circle'. We have been finding circles around the classroom and the outdoors, drawing circles with chalk and setting up a teddy bears picnic for 6 teddies.

To help us learn the 's' sound and our number of the week 'number 6' we have made our own fruit snakes by counting out 6 green grapes and 6 red grapes.

We have also been learning all about bonfire night and how to stay safe tonight with our families. We have created some firework marks using chalk and practised our fine motor skills by squeezing spray bottles to create some lovely firework paintings.
