Below you will find key information about what is going on in your child's year group this year. 

Teachers

Your teachers this academic year are Miss Wallace in 1SW and Mr Roscoe in 1RR

Key topics 

Here are the topics that we will be learning about each half term:

Home Learning

Homework is put up weekly on Google Classroom with hard copies in book bags for those without printers. It is assigned on a Friday and due in the following Wednesday. This gives the children an opportunity to practise what they have been learning in school and to have discussions with you about what they are learning in school.

PE days 

PE day is a Tuesday for both classes.

Phonics 

Below you can find the links to three videos that show how we deliver reading in Year 1. These links need to be copied and pasted into your web browser. 

The first link is to Read 1. This focuses on decoding words and finding key sounds within the book. We also look at new vocabulary words the children might not have heard before. 

The second link is to Read 2. In this read the children focus on prosody and reading with fluency and expression. 

The third link is to Read 3. This read is all about comprehension and ensuring children have understood the book they have read.

The aim is by the end of these 3 reads that your child will bring their book home and be able to read it with fluency and expression. We hope these videos help you to understand how reading is taught and how you can support your child at home using a similar approach if you feel they still need support with reading the text.
