Curriculum Overview
At Canon Burrows CE we pride ourselves on having a rich and challenging curriculum that will engage our learners, ensure they make good progress, foster lifelong learning skills and promote British values.
Phonics is taught in EYFS and Key stages 1, following the Little Wandle Phonics programme. This supports the teaching of reading and early spelling. The children take part in a variety of games and activities in order to practise reading and writing new and key words. Once children are able to segment and blend, they take part in small group reading practice sessions.
In Key Stage 2, whole class reading takes place daily, involving a mixture of pupils and adult reading and interogation of the texts. Independent reading and activities are related to the guided reading books and phonics. Children are also heard reading independently by other adults in school.
