Eco team's day at the Climate Change conference in Manchester

Date: 22nd Mar 2019 @ 9:37pm

On Friday March 22nd 2019 four children from years five and six went to the Intergenerational Climate Change Conference hosted by Manchester Environmental Education Network (MEEN) at 5 Bridge Mill in Manchester.

A really interesting and informative day included presentations about climate change in both Brazil and Manchester, which included a speaker from Greater Manchester Fire Brigade who showed examples of how climate change is making the fire fighters job more and more difficult. His presentation included information and pictures about the terrible moorland fires we experienced here in Tameside last year.

During the conference Canon Burrows pupils made rainwater gauges, worked on social maps, and were interviewed by the BBC. smiley

A highlight of the day was skyping with two schools in Brazil to learn about how climate change was impacting on their country, and schools in particular.

A theme running throughout the day was resilience, and everyone present thought about, and suggested ideas, about how we can try to prevent and mitigate the effects of climate change on where we live.

It was lovely to see children from different schools, and of different ages, in Great Manchester working so well together and showing we can make positive change.
