Removing a dead tree
Date: 31st Jan 2020 @ 12:43pm
This week, in the environmental management session, children from SHY6 helped Mr Clark to remove a fallen tree that was in the school gardens. There are a number of older trees that have suffered badly in the wet ground this winter and this one had fallen, creating a danger to children playing.
The Eco team learnt how to correctly use saws and lopers to cut the branches down to smaller transportable pieces. They carried and moved the dead wood to the brushwood pile outside the school fence and left it there to decompose. The brushwood pile is now looking quite substantial and is making a fine home for a wide range of mini beasts and possibly hedghogs. Birds also make good use of piles of old wood and leaves because it provides them with a great food source.
