Spring 1 Week 1
Date: 9th Jan 2025 @ 12:23pm
Happy New Year! We hope you and your family have had a fantastic holiday!
This week we have launched our new topic 'Why do we go on journeys?' Over the next few weeks, we will be learning about lots of different types of transport that can help us on our journey.
This week we read the story 'We’re going on a bear hunt’ by Michael Rosen. We have had lots of fun learning about this story by joining in with the repetitive refrains and actions and learning lots of new language. We created our own story map to help us learn the order of the story and explored some different textures and creating our own marks to represent the grass, river, mud, forest, snowstorm and cave.
In Math's this week we have continued to think about subitising numbers 1-3 which means recognising amounts by sight without counting them.
In R.E this week we heard the story of Noah’s Ark. We learned that this was a story that Jesus would have heard when he was growing up. We found it in the Bible in the Old Testament and we then found the rainbow on the Big Frieze and talked about how Noah was obedient and had courage, trust and faith in God. We will have lots of fun playing with the Noah’s Ark in the small world area!
In Phonics this week we have been looking at the letter ‘m’ - Put your lips together and make the mmmmm sound mmmmm. We have been looking at different friends names and objects beginning with the sound and we used our robot voices to help us segment some words beginning with the ‘m’ sound.
In Squiggle while you Wiggle we have been practising our ‘under the hump’ marks (which looks like a smiley face). We worked really hard over a few days to perfect our marks and they are looking fantastic!
We have also had a few new friends join us this week in Nursery so we have been showing them our class rules and routines and helping them to feel welcome in our class.
