Spring 1 Week 3

Date: 23rd Jan 2025 @ 9:56pm

As part of our ECO learning this month we have learnt about recycling and the different things we can recycle. We thought about our ECO pledge and we have been ECO superstars this week at recycling our left over food and peels in our new food bin. We also went out to look at the compost bin in the EYFS garden and learnt about how it works.

As part of our learning about recycling, we have also thought about how we can re-use some of our rubbish by creating Art. We created some amazing junk modelling cars, buses and aeroplanes.

We also created some bird feeders by re-suing recycled plastic bottles. We went on a lovely welly walk around the school grounds looking for signs of Winter as part of our learning about seasons and we hung our bird feeders up in the garden whilst we were on our walk. We noticed on our walk that the weather was colder so we needed to wrap up warm, we saw there was no leaves on the trees and in the flower beds we spotted some Winter bulbs starting to grow through the mud. When we got back into the classroom we warmed up with a nice warm cup of hot chocolate and a biscuit for story time.

The Nursery children have been learning about different types of transport this week and have reflected on the way they travel to school each day and the carbon footprint they are leaving behind. We completed the travel tracker and looked at how many of us walk/ drive/ get a bus or cycle to school each day. We then completed a tally chart on our front playground counting how many of each types of transport we could see.

We have also thought about the different ways these types of transport travel e.g. do they move in the sky, on the road, in water. We had a go at sorting these into the correct categories using our small world toys and through our cutting and sticking skills.

Continuing on with our learning about the Green Cross Road in the Autumn term, the Nursery children went out in groups this week and practised crossing the road safely with a grown up at the crossing. They learnt how to press the button and wait until they hear the beep and see the green man before they cross.

In Maths we have been thinking about prepositional language by playing the hokey cokey and following instructions of where to put their teddy e.g. ‘on our heads’, ‘behind our backs’, ‘under our legs’. We will continue with this next week.

In Phonics this week we have been looking at the sound ‘g’ and in Squiggle while you wiggle we have been learning the ‘move the hump’ marks.

In R.E this week we heard a story from the New Testament of the Bible, told by Jesus. We learned that it is a parable because it teaches us how to live in a way that pleases God. We heard the story of the Good Samaritan and how he showed love and compassion to the man who had been hurt. We talked about who has helped us when we have been hurt:
