Spring 1 Week 5
Date: 7th Feb 2025 @ 10:07am
A huge thank you to the parents and grandparents who attended our Book Start session this week. It was so lovely to see Sarah modelling how to share a story in such an engaging way by encouraging the children to join in with the repetitive refrains and answer questions about the book. I hope you enjoyed the children’s new books that they brought home.
We have been fantastic mark makers again this week with our ‘hook down’ mark for squiggle while you wiggle. It’s so lovely to see how much progress they are making forming different marks in preparation for writing letters.
In Phonics we have introduced the sound 'c’. We have been sorting animals by their initial sounds, learning the initial sounds of our names, and blending sounds together to follow simple instructions such as ”can you tough your h-e-d” or “can you touch your l-e-g”.
This week for our Chatterbox learning we heard another story from the New Testament of the Bible, told by Jesus. We opened the Chatterbox and discovered some cress seeds, a tray of different types of ground and the story of ‘The Sower’. In this parable, Jesus teaches us that it is important to try and listen to what God says and do it, as then the stronger our faith becomes. This is like when seeds are scattered on good ground - they grow.
We scattered some seeds on the different types of ground and also grew our own cress plants.
We have really enjoyed our ‘Wheelie Wednesday’ this week, we are becoming so much more confident now using the balance bikes, pedal bikes and scooters.
In Maths we have been focusing on showing numbers on our fingers, subitising numbers 1-3 and counting in various ways. E.g. by counting 3 claps, 5 jumps, 6 shakes of our instruments.
