Spring 2 Week 4

Date: 21st Mar 2025 @ 9:08am

This week we have had some new exciting visitors to the classroom- some little baby caterpillars. We are enjoying observing them and watching them grow to help us learn about the life cycle of a butterfly.

We have had lots of fun playing outside this week enjoying the sunshine. We have been exploring making different marks with paint and tools whilst using our gross motor skills.

At the start of the week the children went on a Spring walk around the school grounds looking for signs of Spring. We found cherry blossoms, flowers such as daffodils, new buds and leaves growing, a bee and a birds nest. We also used our fine motor skills to create some cheerio bird feeders which we hung around the Early Years garden for the birds.

In R.E this week we heard the happy ending of the Easter story - Jesus is risen! We talked about how Jesus’ friends would have felt when they saw that the tomb was empty and an angel was there instead of Jesus - surprised, shocked and upset. We then talked about how they would have felt excited once they knew that Jesus had risen. We heard how Easter eggs represent the tomb that Jesus was put in and how their emptiness shows the emptiness of the tomb because Jesus has risen. We listened to the song ‘Celebrate’ and talked about how it made us feel happy.

In Maths we have been continuing our learning of positional words by describing where something is through the story ‘Where is Spot?’ and following simple instructions.

In Phonics we have been looking at the sound ‘r’, sorting objects by initial sounds and using our robot voices to segment and blend words together. E.g. can you find the p-i-g, can you find the d-u-ck. This week our nursery rhyme focus has been ‘down at the station’.

We have also been making some lovely Easter cards ready to take with us for the residents at Joseph Jennings on Tuesday.

Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to come with us on our trip to Joseph Jennings. Please can you arrive at school for 10:00 ready to walk down with the children. We are all really looking forward to another lovely crafty morning there.
