The Mayor's Second Green Summit

Date: 27th Mar 2019 @ 10:37am

After attending the MEEN Climate Change conference eight more keen Eco warriors were delighted to accept the invitation from the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, to attend his second Green Summit. The summit was held at the Lowry, Salford Quays and was, like the first summit oversubscribed. As Manchester's first Green Flag Eco school we felt it was right that we were represented.

The day started with different speakers, including the Mayor himself who welcomed everyone, and perhaps most inspiring were the secondary school students who spoke passionately about the need for action on climate change and the need for that action now.

After a healthy lunch the Canon Burrows Eco team played an active part in the summit by working at the Carbon Classroom stand persuading delegates to show just how much they did know about the causes, effects and solutions of carbon being released into the atmosphere. Layla & Harley also moved around the conference space asking similar questions to good effect.

A short time was spent in the  workshop room that looked at Manchester's natural environment before we looked at and talked with representatives at more stalls. These included energy companies, data & information providers, transport, and businesses involved in helping manage climate change.

We came away after a fascinating day having learnt so much about how human impact on the planet is transforming our daily lives, how we must adapt and make changes to our own lives to help the planet and how if we can do this we can make Greater Manchester one of the worlds leading green cities.
